Lockdown Science at home: Antarctic Clothing.

As part of our project on Tom Crean and the Antarctic Exploration we were discussing the equipment that these brave explorers used. The question that arose was about what type of coats they had and this led to some home experiments.

Inquiry Question: What is the best material to keep heat in/ keep the cold out ?

Have a look at some of the photos from Shane and Saoirse.

After testing how much heat was lost it was concluded that the plastic/bubble wrap were the most successful at keeping the water warm.

We still felt sorry for the adventurers in sub zero temperatures in soggy woolen socks!
