Active School Flag

Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.

The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise them to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community.

Once awarded, ASF remains valid for a period of 3 years.

Ardagh NS has always placed a huge emphasis on the importance of having active and engaged learners. We are a sports loving school from an area steeped in the GAA, Soccer and Athletics to name but a few.

We have decided that this year especially, in the wake of the Covid restrictions and the resulting impacts on the  health and wellbeing of our school community, to make collective push to become even more active! We know if we can all work together to increase our physical activity not alone will we feel better and learn better but we will hopefully earn ourselves a  much coveted Active School Flag.

Check out our Blog and Twitter account to see photos and reports of all this activity and fun.

Our Active Schools Committee

Our first job was to organise a hard working committee. Two teachers, Mr Devenney and Mrs Tighe, represented our school staff.

Due to Covid 19 we had to plan our committee as Class Bubbles and Pods had to established. In our Senior Classroom we chose Cora, Amy, Declan and Martin. Pádraig, Shane, Jack, Emma and Niamh were selected from the 3rd and 4th Classroom.

We felt Evie and Micheál from 1st and 2nd Class would have excellent ideas to make us a more Active School while our “Energy Busters” Conall and Sophie would represent the Junior Classroom.
