The month of May is the month dedicated to Mary. This old tradition of honouring Our Lady at this time of the year has been passed down through the generations.
May altars were traditionally adorned with flowers, either wild flowers such as primroses which are plentiful in the hedgerows at this time of year or garden flowers such as lilies, roses, irises and periwinkles.
